Jeremiah Collins

Jeremiah Collins grew up in St. Petersburg, FL. His passion is to share what he knows about art, building, and living simply. He's traveled all over the United States and has dreamed that someday he would go to Colombia, to the heart of the earth where his dear friend, Cristian, the creator of Sierramar tours, spoke so fondly of. Who knew that 20 years later this would be the opportunity for that dream to come true. Please, come and contribute to the magic that is afoot in one of the worlds most treasured places.
Jeremiah has 20 years of various construction experience from residential to the backcountry. He has been a practitioner of Natural Therapeutics since 2007. Nurtured by folks who were educators, skilled tradesmen, artists, and avid outdoor adventurers, he gained a wholistic understanding of nature's principles. Jeremiah found the process of building with aircrete a perfect way to implement these principles as a way to contribute to the prosperity of all people choosing to live in community.

1. **Building Techniques:** Learn innovative methods for constructing a gothic-shaped (cathedral-style) structure that is resistant to fire, and provides great insulation, as well as being resistant to rot and various natural forces like earthquakes.
2. **Collaborative Environment:** Work collaboratively in a supportive team setting, guided by experienced instructor, to co-create sustainable and durable gothic-style structures.
3. **Form Construction:** Build archway forms and a round window form using specialized techniques suitable for gothic architecture.
4. **Aircrete Mixing:** Utilize unique tools to mix Aircrete, a versatile and easily made material with remarkable properties, comparable to the simplicity of making pancake batter.
5. **Brick Stacking:** Stack bricks using a compass arm to construct a gothic-shaped (cathedral-style) structure, following a specific mortar recipe.
6. **Reinforcement Techniques:** Apply reinforcement fabric-mesh with stucco to enhance the strength and durability of the gothic-style structure.
7. **Interactive Learning:** Engage in interactive "classroom" exercises and discussions covering various topics such as foundation pouring, compass arm assembly, skylight ideas, window installation, and door construction and installation, tailored for gothic architecture.

A human’s basic needs of food, shelter, and water are necessary though hardly enough to live an enriched and fulfilled life. We look to learn and grow, have adventure, and contribute our gifts with artistry. How we obtain these elements and who we share this journey with will shape ourselves, each other, and generations to come.

In this adventure, Sierramar and Flowsource are gung ho on tailoring this experience to inspire confidence in ones ability to create shelter, a home or dwelling with the innovative technology of lightweight concrete, or Aircrete.
​
Aircrete is a versatile, lighteight, cost-effective building material with numerous benefits and applications. As a mixture of water, cement powder, and a water-based foam, Aircrete is fireproof, insect-proof, and moisture-resistant.
It provides excellent thermal and acoustic insulation while remaining easy to work with. Thanks to innovations in Aircrete equipment, anyone can now build with Aircrete and create unique and durable structures.

Despite its lower R-value than other insulation materials, Aircrete offers a unique R-value and thermal mass combination, making it a valuable material for various construction projects.
From dome homes to fences and wall panels, Aircrete is an ideal material for DIY enthusiasts looking to create functional, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable structures.
With the right equipment, recipe, and technique, you can build your own Aircrete project and enjoy its numerous benefits.
For this build we chose a Cathedral hall design.
In a truly magical place of geological and cultural profundance, we will be surveying the land for the ideal position for the foundation.
We will be going into great detail the planning of this design.

As a group, together, we will engage in the creative process making the best of the available resources and discussing alternatives for various design shapes(such as domes), doors, windows, climates, and budgets.

Participants can either opt for our meal plan, enjoying dishes prepared by our chef, or use the open kitchen to cook their own meals. Those cancelling more than 4 weeks prior to the first day of the workshop will receive a full tuition refund, minus a 7% processing and administration fee.
